Curriculum and Modules

The Interdisciplinary Health Science curriculum integrates courses across the arts and sciences faculties. Students must select a Major and a Minor Concentration at the start of Year 2, and must complete at least 15 courses in each of the two faculties throughout the degree. The program emphasizes inquiry-based learning, with dedicated courses in research methods and applied inquiry in the third and fourth years.

Introduction to Interdisciplinary Studies

Examines how various academic disciplines contribute to integrative understanding, covering the history of interdisciplinary studies and different models of integration while developing skills in interdisciplinary research and problem solving.

Introduction to Health Sciences

Introduces the interdisciplinary field of health sciences, including definitions of health, wellness, and illness from multiple perspectives such as biological, behavioural, social, and environmental. Current health science issues within the community and media are presented.

Human Biology and Anatomy

Provides foundational knowledge of human biological systems, cellular processes, and anatomical structures essential for understanding health and disease across the lifespan.

Introduction to Psychology

3 credits

Covers selected areas in psychology including developmental, social, personality, clinical psychology, learning, perception, physiological psychology, emotion, and motivation as they relate to health outcomes.

Methods of Inquiry

3 credits

Develops research skills and involves students with topics of public concern, building abilities and confidence in both written and oral communication through structured inquiry projects.

Applied Inquiry in Health Sciences

An advanced course where students apply interdisciplinary research methods to real-world health challenges, synthesizing diverse perspectives and producing original scholarly work in their chosen concentration area.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the Interdisciplinary Health Science program at the University of Windsor is competitive and requires a strong academic background in sciences and mathematics.
