Program Overview: General Science / Concurrent Education

The General Science / Concurrent Education program at the University of Windsor is an intensive five-year program that allows you to earn two degrees simultaneously: a Bachelor of Science (General Science) and a Bachelor of Education. This dual-degree structure prepares you for a rewarding career in teaching while building a strong foundation across multiple scientific disciplines.

Offered jointly by the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Education, this program combines rigorous science coursework with professional education training and extensive classroom experience. Upon graduation, you will be eligible for certification by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) and qualified to teach at the intermediate and senior levels, covering grades 7 through 12.

The program provides you with the flexibility to explore diverse areas of science including biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and environmental science, while simultaneously developing the pedagogical skills needed to inspire the next generation of learners. With 80 days of real teaching experience embedded in local schools, you graduate career-ready from day one.

Key Program Highlights

  • 80 days of hands-on teaching placements in local schools throughout the program
  • Eligible for Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification upon graduation to teach grades 7 to 12
  • Flexible science curriculum allowing exploration of biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and more
