Curriculum and Modules

The History BA (Hons) is structured across three years of study, each building progressively on your historical knowledge and research capabilities. In Year 1, you take introductory modules covering at least two of the three major historical periods — Medieval (c.500–1500), Early Modern (1500–1750), and Modern (post-1750). In Years 2 and 3, you deepen your expertise through specialist topic modules, general history modules, and an independent dissertation.

Introduction to Modern History 1815–1914

This introductory module explores the key political, social, and economic developments across Britain and Europe during the long nineteenth century, providing foundational knowledge of modern historical analysis.

Introduction to Medieval History

20 UK Credits

An introduction to the medieval period (c.500–1500), examining political structures, religious life, and cultural developments across Wales, Britain, and Europe.

Introduction to Early Modern History

20 UK Credits

This module covers the period 1500–1750, exploring themes such as the Reformation, state formation, colonialism, and cultural change in Europe and beyond.

General History Modules (Years 2 and 3)
