The MSc Accounting at Bangor University aims to develop your understanding of the role of accounting for decision-making both inside and outside organisations. Curriculum and Modules

The MSc Accounting program comprises 120 credits of taught modules and a 60-credit dissertation or equivalent research project. September intake students complete taught modules from September to June, while January intake students study from January to June and September to January. The curriculum blends rigorous accounting theory with practical professional application.

Accounting Theory

This module critically evaluates a widespread set of theories that underpin explanations of accounting behaviour and accounting regulatory output. You will explore how accounting theories can be used to explain the behaviour of preparers and users of accounting information.

Advanced Financial Reporting and Regulation

This module provides an advanced treatment of the main theoretical principles underlying financial reporting and the practical implications of alternative regulatory regimes. You will examine how regulation impacts corporate reporting practices across different jurisdictions.

Management Accounting

20 credits

This module develops your understanding of the uses of financial data in measuring and evaluating business performance, and in setting the strategic aims of the organisation. Techniques for cost control, planning, pricing, and managerial decision-making are covered in depth.

Financial Analysis

20 credits

This module analyses the techniques used to evaluate a company's financial position and performance. You will develop skills in trend analysis, interfirm comparison, and business valuation using financial forecasts.

Research Methods

20 credits

This module develops knowledge of intermediate and advanced research methods and provides a basis in research methodology. It prepares you for undertaking your dissertation and for those who may eventually wish to pursue research degrees.

Dissertation / Financial Research and CFA Series

60 credits

You will complete either a traditional dissertation involving an extended literature review and empirical study in accounting, or the Financial Research and CFA Series pathway, which combines research seminars with specialist CFA Level 1 exam preparation training.
